We didn’t go to the No Kings protest yesterday really to fundraise.
We showed up with one goal: to be seen and for people to know we exist.
To plant a seed.
To remind people that yes — somewhere in Colorado, real land is being reclaimed for the people.
And to our surprise, they saw us. And they believed in us.
💧 It Started with Water, Not Money
We brought water to give away.
We taped a few QR codes to the table — barely clinging on, wet from condensation.
We brought Plinko so those young and old alike would enjoy gaming, with some joyful prizes to remind people what we were fighting for.
We set out simple photos with our Freedom Village logo, our Unity Harbour mission, and a few lines explaining what we’re building:
A nonprofit + co-op. A protest shelter. A legal landshare. A safe place.
Nothing fancy. No PA system. No pitch.
But it worked.
💸 Over $130 — In Crumpled Bills and Hope
Even without asking, cash started coming in.
Singles and fives.
A couple of twenties.
Quiet nods of understanding as people reached into their pockets.
We collected at least $130 (we’ll recount later for accuracy), and every dollar came from a moment of real connection — from just the few people our founder had time to speak to directly.
No flashy speeches. No donation thermometer. Just:
“We’re building land access and shelter for people who are being erased — the unhoused, disabled, trans, veteran, parent-led families. It’s legal, it’s real, and it’s happening now.”
Again and again, people said:
“This is exactly what we need.”
🧠 They Didn’t Just Listen — They Got It
People didn’t have to be sold on it.
They were ready. Starving for it, even.
One person said they’d been looking for something like this and thought they were alone.
A few asked if they could volunteer or move there someday.
Some scanned the QR codes and stood in front of our little display like they’d found a map home.
It wasn’t just a table.
It was a portal.
And the resonance was overwhelming.
🛠️ Why We Exist — And Why It Matters Now
Unity Harbour and SkyStone Vale were created for one reason:
Because the old systems are failing us, and we can’t wait to be saved.
We’re building Freedom Village:
36 acres of co-op land
Legally protected RV and tiny home spots
Graywater-safe sanitation
Off-grid power
Mutual aid infrastructure
Trauma-informed onboarding
And space for people who have nowhere else to go
We’re not trying to scale capitalism.
We’re trying to outlive it.
And it turns out?
People are ready.
✊ Yesterday Wasn’t About Money — It Was About Proof
We didn’t come with a plan to fundraise because I’m awkward and never great at it. I bring honesty and apparently, that’s what people are craving for.
But still — people gave.
They gave water for us to share, walked to get ice so others would have cold water, trust, stories, time, and yes — cash.
Because they recognized the real thing when they saw it.
Not a think billionaire tank.
Not a vague promise.
But a real place, with real people, doing real things.
And that means everything.
🌱 What’s Next
We’ll keep showing up — at protests, in courtrooms, under the sun, and in the dirt.
We’ll keep taping up QR codes — even if they get soggy.
We’ll keep building — even if it’s slow.
Because yesterday reminded us: we’re not alone.
People are hungry for hope.
And now, they know where to find it.
